Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the use of the technology of smart antennas and the influence they may have in mobile communications (UMTS). The enormous interest smart antennas have received in recent years is due to the improvements they introduce in mobile communications: a large increase in capacity, range and the potential to introduce new services. On the other hand, they introduce more complexity in the transceiver and radio resource management. This article describes a simulator of a base station with adaptive antennas, the simulations realized and the conclusions obtained.
