The software environment developed to use a distributed rainfall-runoff model in real time is described. The package, called Real-time Interactive Basin Simulator (RIBS), manages the real-time operation of the simulation model, providing several modes of user access to data, results and intermediate states. The user interface can generate hydrographs at any point within the basin, display the time evolution of model variables for any grid element, or represent the spatial distribution of basic or derived variables.
