Abstract

It has been my privilege to coordinate a session of which it can be said without hesitation that the different contributors have been really up to the task of bringing forward the intricate problems associated with irrigated farming systems in semi-arid and arid zones and of discussing possible solutions and advisable practices to cope with these problems. I apologize to them, in particular, and to all the participants in this colloquium for not doingjustice to their excellent papers in the short summary I will give in the next few minutes.
