Abstract

Pasado, presente y futuro. Vivir tres veces. This project proposes the rehabilitation of the two main buildings of the Alcoa aluminium factory in Avilés, to transform them into a Centre of Hydrodynamic Experiences. Starting from a pre-existence of a profoundly industrial and large-scale character, a new architecture is introduced, based on an overlay of structural orders that function as a versatile system capable of adapting to the variety of scales required by the new program, from long waterways to small offices. By means of the new façades, the treatment of the exterior spaces and the new structural elements, it is intended to maintain the nature and memory of the existing elements, but at the same time to humanize its industrial monumentality so that all its potencial is put at the service of the users. An intervention that has time in mind. Taking advantage of the virtues of the past and respecting its nature, it introduces a system that allows it to have a present and that is also open to a changing future. Past, present and future. Vivir tres veces.
