Abstract

The importance of quality teaching in the teaching-learning process of students, and the evaluation system among other factors, make necessary an analysis of these aspects, in order to improve global learning. Recent research shows that with objective assessments and student participation in the evaluation process, the gradual acquisition of competencies is facilitated. Starting from these premises and continuing with the study of the subjects of structures in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Edificación, in the present work we analyze the factors that affect the evaluation in the subject of "Análisis de Estructuras y Geotecnia", of the third year of the Grado de Edificación·of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and its influence on student learning, in order to establish guidelines for improvement in the evaluation. The work reflects the influence on the evaluation of the base with which the students arrive, the student's perception of the evaluation and the type of evaluation carried out. The results obtained show that the students who take the subject, do so with the previous approved subjects, even with a percentage higher than 50% in the first call. The subject has achieved a score higher than 3 out of 5 in the following aspects: in the learning results achieved, in the benefit of the type of evaluation carried out, in the evaluation model and in the credit-hours ratio. According to the results, it is proposed for the next academic year, improve learning results, increasing the number of practices to be carried out, since the students consider that it motivates them and helps them to study.
