Abstract

An analysis of the production of Nitric Oxide in laminar
and turbulent diffusion flames has been carried out taking
advantage of the large activation energy of the NO producing reactions.
In laminar diffusion flames the NO production, takes place
in a thin high temperature region adjacent to the thin reaction zone for the main reaction. The mass of NO produced per unit flame surface and time is calculated in terms of the main characteristics of the Burke-Schumann thin flame solution.
The NO production rate in turbulent diffusion flames is
related to the probability density function for an inert species diffusing through the mixing region.
