¿Es Rem Koolhaas un conceptualizador de contextos o un contextualizador de conceptos? Probablemente una de las características diferenciadoras de su actividad como arquitecto es su capacidad de comprender el contexto geopolítico y social en el que se sitúa y de anticipar aquellas temáticas que van a ser determinantes en el futuro. Es sin duda, el arquitecto vivo más influyente en el contexto actual. El objetivo de esta investigación es tratar de discernir el peso de estas dos ideas en su arquitectura y cuál de ellas resulta el desencadenante de la otra. En cierto sentido se trataría de dar respuesta al eterno dilema sobre la falacia del círculo vicioso.

Para desarrollar este razonamiento y llegar a conclusiones plausibles, analizaremos paralelamente dos exposiciones comisariadas por Rem Koolhaas que reflejan a la perfección dos momentos muy diferentes en su trayectoria: por un lado, la exposición "Content" realizada en el año 2004 y por otro, la Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia de 2014. Se trata de verificar si es su visionario entendimiento del contexto el detonante de su innovadora conceptualización.
Abstract
Rem Koolhaas is a contexts’ conceptualizator or a concepts’ contextualizator? Probably one of the differentiating features of his activity as an architect is his capacity to understand the geopolitical and social context in which he is immersed and to anticipate those topics that are going to be determinants in the future. He is, with no doubt, the most influential living architect nowadays. The objective of this research is trying to discern the weight of these two ideas in his architecture and which of them is the trigger for the other. In a sense, it would respond to the eternal dilemma on the fallacy of the vicious circle.

To develop this reasoning and reach plausible conclusions, we will analyze in parallel two exhibitions curated by Rem Koolhaas that reflect two very different moments in his career: on the one hand, the exhibition "Content" in the year 2004 and on the other, the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2014. The goal is to verify if his visionary understanding of the context triggers his innovative conceptualization.
