Delirious Madrid: o la construcción de un relato sobre el desarrollo urbano

Abstract

En 1978 Rem Koolhaas escribe "Delirious New York", un
"manifiesto retroactivo" sobre el desarrollo urbano de
Nueva York. Ésta se presenta como una ciudad donde
la evolución tecnológica y el crecimiento demográfico y
económico han obligado continuamente a una reinvención
en la manera de explotar su retícula.
En 2018 se cumplen cuarenta años desde su publicación,
aunque, como se demostrará en el trabajo, buena
parte de los planteamientos que expone Koolhaas en su
obra siguen plenamente vigentes hoy en día. Nueva York
sigue transformándose a un ritmo vertiginoso, los rascacielos
aspiran a cotas cada vez más altas y continúa
siendo el laboratorio de nuevas teorías y movimientos
culturales.
El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en la relectura de
esta obra, realizando una reflexión sobre los conceptos
que se exponen en ella, atendiendo a su evolución
en las últimas décadas y buscando relaciones y símiles
contemporáneos que permitan un entendimiento del
comportamiento actual del organismo vivo que es esta
metrópolis.
Asimismo, se tratarán casos equivalentes en la ciudad de
Madrid, profundizando en los aspectos más interesantes
de cada uno y las intrigas que los rodean, siguiendo los
razonamientos planteados en el libro original.
La conclusión toma la forma de un relato que versa sobre
el desarrollo de Madrid, sus enredos urbanísticos y
la influencia de los comportamientos sociales de sus habitantes
en su transformación.
In 1978 Rem Koolhsas writes “Delirious New York," a
“retroactive manifesto" about urban development in New
York. This is presented as a city where technological evolution and the demographic and economic growth have continually forced a reinvention in the way of exploiting
its grid.
2018 marks the 40th annlversay of its publication, although, as will be demonstrated in the thesis, a good part of the principles exposed by Koolhaas in his work
are still valid today. New York continues to transform at
a dizzying pace, the skyscrapers aspire to higher and higher levels and keeps being the laboratory of new theories. and cultural movements.
The aim of this thesis consists in the rereading of this
work, making a thought on the concepts that are exposed on it, attending to its evolution in the last decades
and looking for contemporary relationships and similes
that allow an understanding of the current behavior of
the living organism that this metropolis actually is.
Likewise, equivalent cases of the city of Madrid will be
treated, deepening in the most interesting aspects of
each and the intrigues that surround them, following the
reasoning proposed in the original book.
The conclusion takes the form of a story that discusses
the development of Madrid, its urban tangles and the influences
of the social behavior of its inhabitants in their transformation.
