Mecanismos espaciales en la obra de David Hockney

Abstract

Un estudio académico, riguroso y literario de la obra pictórica de David
Hockney. Debido al enfoque arquitectónico, el texto se centra principalmente
en las características espaciales existentes en su obra.
En primer lugar, a través de un barrido panorámico de los instrumentos
usados por el artista en la difícil tarea de la representación espacial.
En segundo, analizando quirúrgicamente los diferentes elementos que
componen el espacio pictórico a través de una selección de sus cuadros más
significativos.
Por medio de la investigación, la escritura y el dibujo, el siguiente
trabajo consigue trazar una trayectoria de más de 50 años de profesión:
desde el naturalismo californiano a su exploración cubista, pasando por la
experimentación con la fotografía.
Este análisis pretende por tanto acentuar la cualidad espacial de la obra
del pintor británico. Un autor que debe ser entendido dentro de la Historia
del Arte del siglo XX, a la que tanto debe, convirtiéndose además en charnela
esencial de la cultura del presente y de nuestro futuro.
An academic, rigorous and literary study of David Hockney’s work. Due to its
architectural approach the text focuses on the spatial characteristics of the
artist’s work.
First through a panoramic sweep across the use of optical instruments
used by Hockney in the difficult task of spatial representation. Second by
analyzing the different elements that compose the pictorial space by means of
a selection of his most significant paintings.
By researching, writing and drawing, the following work pretends
to trace a career of more than 50 years of profession: from Californian
naturalism or his experimentation with photography to Cubist exploration.
Therefore, this analysis aims to accentuate the spatial quality of the work
of the British painter. An author who must be understood within the History
of Art of the XX century, to which he owes so much, becoming as well an
essential part of the culture of the present and our future.
