Abstract
The effects of feed restriction on growth performance and on the development of the proximal part of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) were studied in broilers from 8 to 22 d of age. There were 4 treatments arranged as a 2 × 2 factorial with strain (Cobb 500 vs. Hubbard JV) Poult. Sci. 97(E-Suppl. 1) 147 and feed restriction strategy [4 h darkness/d (R4) vs. 4 h darkness plus 4 extra hours with light but without access to the feeder (R8)]. Each treatment was replicated 6 times and the experimental unit was a cage with 8 chicks.
