Las matemáticas de la felicidad: análisis de sentimiento musical con Spotify Web API y Genius API

Abstract

Los computadores tienen cada vez más capacidad para complementar e incluso sustituir el trabajo de los humanos en prácticamente todos los ámbitos. Sin embargo, históricamente el arte se ha resistido a este cambio, ya que siempre se ha considerado que la creatividad humana difícilmente podría ser reemplazada por una máquina. Este trabajo se centra en explorar nuevas formas de aplicar técnicas computacionales al campo de la música para tratar de encontrar, de una manera objetiva, un sistema de análisis válido para cuantificar la emotividad que transmite una canción. Para ello, se utilizarán datos de distintas fuentes (Spotify, Genius Lyrics, Billboard) y se realizará un análisis de distintas características (entre las que cabe destacar la valencia) tanto musicales (valencia musical, entre otras), como semánticas (valencia verbal, entre otras). Con esta información, se buscará determinar el denominado “Índice de emotividad” de una canción, que tendrá en cuenta las categorías anteriormente mencionadas. El sistema de análisis musical descrito, se usará además para crear una aplicación web que ofrezca un sistema de recomendaciones basado en la emotividad de las canciones.---ABSTRACT---Computers are increasingly able to complement and even replace human work in virtually all fields. In spite of this, art has historically resisted this modernization, since it´s always been believed that human creativity could hardly be replaced by machines. This project focuses on exploring new means of using computational techniques in the field of music, in order to find a valid way of objectively analyzing songs and, based on this analysis, determine the positivity or negativity a certain song transmits. To do this, data from different sources (Spotify, Genius Lyrics, Billboard) will be used, and different characteristics analyzed (the most notable for us being the valence), both musical (musical valence, amongst others) and semantic (verbal valence, amongst others). Taking all this information, the “Emotional Index” of each track will be computed, taking into account the previously described features of each track. The system for the analysis of songs described above will ultimately be used in the creation of a web application offering a recommendation system based on the emotional index of songs.
