Abstract

This work presents a preliminary study on the use of the least number of via holes to simulate the metallic walls in a cavity-backed patch phased antenna array. This study is performed over a 7x7 array and an 11x11 array of a classic circular patch antenna, fed by a coaxial probe. The array is analyzed using a full-wave methodology based on a direct domain decomposition of the device in terms of spherical and cylindrical modes, using rotation and translation theorems for spherical and cylindrical waves.
