Implementación de una RFP para el cambio de ubicación de un datacenter

Abstract

En este trabajo se trata de implementar una Solicitud de Propuesta (RFP) para el proceso de traslado de la infraestructura de un DataCenter (CPD), incluyendo maquinaria y equipos de soporte, desde un punto de vista académico. En este proceso se va a incluir información sobre las herramientas a utilizar, el método de descubrimiento, que se descubre y qué hacer con ello. Las motivaciones principales de este tipo de procesos son principalmente por una necesidad de mejorar la infraestructura que comprende el CPD o una necesidad logística. Las causas que pueden provocar esas necesidades pueden ser la falta de espacio, la obsolescencia de los equipos de las instalaciones o la antigüedad de las maquinas, etc. Con el paso del tiempo las instalaciones van requiriendo mayor cantidad de recursos e infraestructura según van creciendo las necesidades de la empresa, lo que lleva a pensar en la relocalización del CPD y por tano la necesidad de trasladarlo. Los principales pasos que se abordaran a continuación son en primer lugar determinar que equipamiento existe en el CPD a trasladar y cuál es el volumen de la infraestructura existente. Por eso, el primer paso es descubrir el contenido del mismo. Para ello existen herramientas de descubrimiento que en gran medida permiten automatizar los proceso, convirtiéndolos en más rápidos y eficientes. Una vez conocido cual es la infraestructura qué se ha encontrado en el CPD, se analiza para entender el contenido. Ese paso nos permitirá tomar una serie de decisiones sobre qué hacer con el material encontrado y determinar que será necesario trasladar y que será necesario reemplazar. Por último, hay que determinar cuáles son las diferentes formas en la que se puede actualizar la infraestructura conociendo los diferentes posibles sitios de traslado y las diferentes formas en las que es posible realizar el mismo. Como consecuencia de todo lo anterior, se realiza una RFP que sirva como especificaciones para poder recibir las propuestas de los Service Provider invitados al concurso.

This work tries to implement a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the process of transferring the infrastructure of a DataCenter (CPD), including machinery and support equipment, from an academic point of view. This process will include information on the tools to use, the discovery method, what is discovered and what to do with it. The main motivations for this type of process are mainly due to a need to improve the infrastructure that includes the CPD or a logistical need. The causes that can trigger these needs can be the lack of space, the obsolescence of the equipment or the facilities, or the age of the machines, etc. As time goes by, the facilities require a greater number of resources and infrastructure as the needs of the company grow, which leads us to think about the relocation of the CPD and therefore the need to relocate it. The main steps that will be adopted below are to first case to determine what equipment exists in the data center to be transferred and what is the volume of the existing infrastructure. That is why the first step is to discover its content. For this, there are discovery tools, that allow automating the processes, making them faster and more efficient. Once the infrastructure found in the CPD is known, it is analyzed to understand the content. This step will allow us to make some decisions about what to do with the material found and determine what will need to be moved and what will need to be replaced. Finally, it is necessary to determine what are the different ways in which the infrastructure can be updated, knowing the different possible transfer sites and the different ways in which it is possible to do it. As a consequence of all the above, an RFP is made that serves as specifications to be able to receive the proposals of the Service Providers invited to the contest.
