San Martiño de Mondoñedo: realidad y leyenda

Abstract

Este trabajo estudia la historia de la basílica de San Martiño de Mondoñedo, ubicada en el municipio de Foz, Lugo, la cual se remonta a los siglos V y VI. Tiene como objetivo tratar de entender el orden cronológico de su construcción a partir de toda la información encontrada. Además, se inicia un primer estudio de su fábrica para intentar averiguar su caracterización y las canteras de donde pudieron ser extraídas las piedras de esta antigua construcción. En el primer capítulo, se da comienzo a una primera línea de investigación desde sus inicios hasta la construcción románica del templo. Se añade una descripción de su estado actual. A continuación, se estudian las intervenciones posteriores realizadas desde el siglo XV en adelante y cómo van a suponer un cambio rotundo en la composición volumétrica de la basílica. Finalmente, se realiza un estudio sobre la fachada norte centrándose en su variedad cromática y en la identificación de los tipos de aparejos perceptibles para compararlos más adelante con las muestras recogidas de las distintas canteras más próximas visitadas. Las aportaciones a este trabajo son: la puesta en orden de las distintas hipótesis sobre la historia de San Martiño de Mondoñedo de varios investigadores, la investigación sobre las intervenciones posteriores, el trabajo de búsqueda de las canteras históricas y la secuencia hipotética de su reconstrucción cronológica = This work studies the history of the basilica of San Martiño de Mondoñedo, located in the municipality of Foz, Lugo, which dates back to the V and VI centuries. The aim is to determine the chronological order of its construction based on all the information found. In addition, an initial study of its stonework is made in order to identify the characterization of the stones and the quarries from which the stones of this ancient construction may have been extracted. The first chapter starts a line of research from its beginnings to the Romanesque construction of the temple. A description of its current state is added. Afterwards, the subsequent interventions carried out from the 15th century onwards are studied, and how they will lead to a redical change in the volumetric composition of the basilica. Finally, a study is performed on the north façade, focusing on its chromatic variety and on the identification of the types of visible masonry in order to compare them later with the samples collected from the different quarries visited in the surroundings.
