The impact of digitalisation and serverless, cloud-first architecture on accounting and billing processes

Abstract

This master thesis explores the impact of switching to cloud-based solutions on businesses, with a specific focus on the financial sector. It discusses the importance and reasons for choosing serverless solutions, as well as the most important cloud technologies, CRM and ERP systems, and their customisation to the needs of the end-user. The paper presents the most important architectural patterns used within the cloud and the ways of creating the designs. It also analyses how the Financial Sector is adopting cloud technologies and presents a case study on a real implementation scenario. The thesis concludes by exploring the potential benefits of cloud-first technologies, such as simplifying infrastructure and reducing costs, enabling companies to redirect resources to higher-value activities such as innovation, customer experience, and business growth. Overall, this study aims to help organisations make better strategic decisions and transform their businesses through cloud adoption.

RESUMEN

Esta tesis de máster explora el impacto del cambio a soluciones basadas en la cloud en las empresas, con un enfoque específico en el sector financiero. Se analiza la importancia y las razones para elegir soluciones serverless, así como las tecnologías en la cloud más importantes, los sistemas CRM y ERP, y su adaptación a las necesidades del usuario final. El documento presenta los patrones arquitectónicos más importantes utilizados dentro de la cloud y las formas de crear los diseños. También analiza cómo el sector financiero está adoptando las tecnologías en la cloud y presenta un caso práctico sobre un escenario real de implantación. La tesis concluye explorando los beneficios potenciales de las tecnologías cloud-first, como la simplificación de la infraestructura y la reducción de costes, lo que permite a las empresas redirigir los recursos a actividades de mayor valor, como la innovación, la experiencia del cliente y el crecimiento del negocio. En general, este estudio pretende ayudar a las organizaciones a tomar mejores decisiones estratégicas y transformar sus negocios mediante la adopción de la cloud.
