Abstract

Clinical guidelines constitute a valuable aid for patient care and management. New computing tools are being developed by medical informatics researchers in order to translate guidelines into an electronic format. Two different methods are presented in this report: an authoring tool for developing clinical algorithms, and an automata model to combine clinical guidelines and decision analysis. Knowledge engineering techniques can also provide new methods for developing clinical guidelines.
