Abstract

This research work achieves an understanding of the causes behind the decision of the White House and the US Department of the Navy to take total control of Marconi's interests in the USA, revealing the role played by the principal people involved in the creation of a virtual governmental radio monopoly. This study also clarifies how this governmental radio monopoly was conceived, concluding with the establishment of Radio Corporation of America (RCA) as a privately owned de facto American monopoly in radio communications, under the control of the US Department of the Navy and the White House, which facilitated patent pools permitting the telecommunications industry to emerge in the United States
