Esta es una central híbrida hidroeólica compuesta por una central eólica y una central hidráulica con almacenamiento energético por bombeo, con el objetivo de que el 100 % de la generación eléctrica en la isla fuese renovable. Actualmente no se ha conseguido dicho objetivo debido a problemas que comprometían la frecuencia de la red y, por tanto, su estabilidad. Con el objetivo de alcanzar dicha estabilidad, en este proyecto se propone un sistema para la regulación de la frecuencia de la red utilizando para ello las bombas de velocidad fija y de velocidad variable de la central de bombeo. ABSTRACT The power system of the canary island El Hierro is isolated and small, which entails many technical problems that compromise the stability of the grid. To avoid the use of pollutant conventional power plants to accomplish that stability the power plant Gorona del Viento was installed in El Hierro. This utility is a Hybrid Wind-Hydro Power Plant and is composed of a wind farm and a pump storage hydropower plant. This hybrid power plant was constructed to achieve the objective of transforming the power system of El Hierro into a 100 % renewable grid. Nowadays this objective has not still been achieved due to issues that compromise the frequency of the grid, hence its stability. With the aim of achieving this stability, a control system is proposed in this project to regulate the frequency of the grid by employing the fixed speed pumps and the variable speed pumps of the pump storage hydropower plant.
