description: The first Spanish ridesharing agency, Centro de Viaje Compartido (CVC), is operating in Madrid since march, 1996. It offers free matching services to Madrid metropolitan area drivers and, simultaneously, develops a reserch program about ridesharing incentives and barriers in order to improve its own promotion and operation methods. In this paper, the CVC team describes the way its matching system and software works, presents its first results and analyse Spanish drivers attitudes to ridesharing, evaluating data from its own files and from different study surveys. Significant differences between declared attitudes and actual behaviours appear.
