Habitar la emergencia: hacia una arquitectura resiliente

Resumen

Esta investigación analiza las estrategias arquitectónicas aplicadas a la respuesta ante emergencias humanitarias, fundamentándose en el estudio de las obras de los arquitectos Shigeru Ban, Anna Heringer y Yasmeen Lari.

Aunque se exploran diversas aproximaciones a la habitabilidad en regiones vulnerables, el centro de atención se sitúa en la práctica de Lari, quien destaca por lograr una convergencia efectiva entre la inmediatez de la arquitectura de emergencia y la capacidad de recuperación de las comunidades.
El objetivo principal es proponer un cambio de modelo en la arquitectura humanitaria, donde la intervención técnica trascienda la solución temporal para garantizar la dignidad y la rehabilitación territorial permanente. Para ello, se examina cómo la arquitectura puede mitigar la vulnerabilidad extrema en situaciones de refugio prolongado mediante el diseño de sistemas constructivos que garanticen dignidad y que sean seguros frente a futuros desastres.

La metodología se basa en un estudio cualitativo de técnicas constructivas que priorizan el uso de materiales locales y soluciones vernáculas. Asimismo, la investigación profundiza en la transferencia de conocimiento técnico como motor de empoderamiento social de los afectados. Este enfoque permite evaluar cómo la capacitación técnica facilita que las poblaciones se conviertan en agentes activos de su propia reconstrucción y bienestar a largo plazo.

Abstract

This research analyzes the architectural strategies applied to humanitarian emergency response, based on the study of the works of architects Shigeru Ban, Anna Heringer, and Yasmeen Lari. Although various approaches to habitability in vulnerable regions are explored, the focus is centered on the practice of Lari, who stands out for achieving an effective convergence between the immediacy of emergency architecture and the recovery capacity of communities.

The main objective is to propose a model shift in humanitarian architecture, where technical intervention transcends temporary solutions to guarantee dignity and permanent territorial rehabilitation. To this end, it examines how architecture can mitigate extreme vulnerability in situations of prolonged displacement through the design of construction systems that guarantee dignity and are safe against future disasters.

The methodology is based on a qualitative study of construction techniques that prioritize the use of local materials and vernacular solutions. Furthermore, the research delves into the transfer of technical knowledge as a driver for the social empowerment of those affected. This approach allows for evaluating how technical training facilitates populations becoming active agents of their own reconstruction and long-term well-being.
