Abstract

The interest in Photonic integrated circuits (PICs)is continuously increasing worldwide and nowadays it can not be dismissed that it willbecome one of the most revolutionary technologies of this century.During the last decades, integrated optics sector was mainly focused onsilicon on insulator (SOI)platform, due to compatibility with preceding CMOS industry. Nevertheless, other materials, such as silicon nitride, indium phosphide or polymers, have shown valuable features foremerging applications beyond communication.
