Creation of a framework for the monitoring and adoption of good Open Science practices in software repositories

Abstract

Hoy en día es habitual que los científicos pertenezcan a un grupo de investigación más amplio, que desarrolla herramientas software en diversos proyectos de investigación. Es habitual que estas herramientas se compartan entre otros investigadores dentro del mismo grupo y se extienda su uso. Por diversos motivos, este software no suele seguir las buenas prácticas de la ciencia abierta. Esto crea dificultades a la hora de cooperar entre distintos grupos. Dado que estas carencias crearan dificultades. Para mejorar estas carencias y basándonos en los principios FAIR, hemos creado una herramienta que mide cuáles son las prácticas actuales de un grupo de investigación de forma objetiva. Para ello hemos creado un dashboard donde se representa estas medidas en gráficas y una base de datos donde se almacenan. El dashboard permite una vista integral de los puntos fuertes y áreas de mejora. La base de datos permitirá seguir el progreso a lo largo del tiempo del grupo identificado. Los usuarios de este software también podrán utilizarlo para su uso personal e individual.---ABSTRACT--- Nowadays, it is common for investigators to belong to a wider research group, which develop software tools in various research projects. It is common for these tools to be shared amongst researchers within the same group spreading its use. Due to diverse reasons, this software normally do not follow good Open Science practices. This creates difficulties when cooperating between different groups. Since these shortcomings will create complications. To improve these shortcomings and based on the FAIR principles, we have created a tool that measures what are the current practices of a research group in an objective way. For this purpose we have created a dashboard where these measures are represented in graphs and a database where they are stored. The dashboard allows a comprehensive view of strengths and areas for improvement. The database will allow tracking the progress over time of the identified group. Users of this software can also use it for their personal and individual use.
