Business Analytics en baloncesto adaptado: análisis comparativo de rendimiento deportivo

Resumen

Este Proyecto Fin de Grado aplica técnicas de Business Analytics para comparar el rendimiento de jugadores de baloncesto en silla de ruedas y de baloncesto convencional, verificando hipótesis sobre tiro, rebotes, tapones, asistencias y puntos.

Los objetivos del mismo son recopilar y almacenar estadísticas en una base de datos relacional, realizar ETL hacia Elasticsearch y diseñar dashboards interactivos en Kibana, y documentar y extraer conclusiones rigurosas con valor académico y social.

Para ello se seguirá una metodología dividida en las siguientes fases: diseño de estudio (definición de preguntas e hipótesis (por ejemplo, menor acierto de tiro y mayor número de rebotes en silla de ruedas) y aspectos de la solución), ingesta y visualización: (carga de datos desde Excel y MySQL, transformación con Logstash y exploración en Kibana), y análisis (técnicas descriptivas para validar o refutar las hipótesis).

Los resultados obtenidos son un menor porcentaje de tiro, especialmente en triples, mayor promedio de rebotes y menor número de tapones, y asistencias y puntos similares en ambas modalidades.

Se han cumplido los objetivos: se identifican patrones distintivos y se implementa una solución replicable con Elasticsearch, Kibana, Excel, MySQL y Logstash. Como limitaciones están el tamaño de la muestra (10 equipos) y la ausencia de análisis predictivos, lo que abre la puerta a ampliar la base de datos, incorporar modelos de machine learning y extender el enfoque a otros deportes adaptados.

Abstract:

This Final Degree Project applies Business Analytics techniques to compare the performance of wheelchair basketball players and conventional basketball players, verifying hypotheses about shooting, rebounds, blocks, assists, and points.

The objectives of this project are to collect and store statistics in a relational database, perform ETL to Elasticsearch, design interactive dashboards in Kibana, and document and draw rigorous conclusions with academic and social value.

To achieve this, a methodology divided into the following phases will be followed: study design (definition of questions and hypotheses (e.g., lower shooting accuracy and higher rebounds in wheelchairs) and solution aspects), ingestion and visualization (data loading from Excel and MySQL, transformation with Logstash, and exploration in Kibana), and analysis (descriptive techniques to validate or refute the hypotheses).

The results obtained are a lower shooting percentage, especially from three-pointers, a higher rebound average and a lower number of blocks, and similar assists and points in both disciplines.

The objectives have been met: distinctive patterns have been identified, and a replicable solution has been implemented using Elasticsearch, Kibana, Excel, MySQL, and Logstash. Limitations include the sample size (10 teams) and the lack of predictive analytics, which opens the door to expanding the database, incorporating machine learning models, and extending the approach to other adaptive sports.
